May 1, 2006
Guest Speaker: Pastor Jeff Gilchrist
Guest Clinician: Derrick McDowell
Young "Up & Comer": Dan Gullicksen
Our monthly Get-Together on May 1st was fantastic!
New attendees received a pair of HEADHUNTERS DRUMSTICKS!
We all fellowshipped while eating pizza & great desserts.
Our special guest speaker was Pastor Jeff Gilchrist. Jeff talked about being able to play all the different styles of music, surrendering yourself to God's will and direction for your life, and remembering what and who is important when leading worship . . . being invisible.
We had a doorprize giveaway of 2 "PHAT FEET" and a Zildjan hat. David Beall donated a few DVDs on "Defending Creation In A Scientific World"
Our "Young Up & Coming" drummer for the evening was Dan Gullicksen. Dan was accompanied by Kendra Brooks on keyboard & vocals. Dan demonstrated laying down a solid groove without getting in the way of the song.
Our special guest clinician was Derrick McDowell. Derrick was accompanied by Sammy and Miles on keyboad and bass. He focused on staying in the pocket. He laid down some deep gooves while giving Sammy & Miles the foundation and freedom to solo & improvise. One of the highlights was the demonstration of "trading fours".
The jam session that closed the evening was challenging as we had several top drummers from the audience join in and everyone was giving it their best stuff!
New licks, new grooves & new faces . . . fantastic!
Many thanks to David Beall, Headhunters Drumsticks & the Phat Foot Company.
My sincere thanks to Cy White of PHOTO ACTION USA
for providing the wonderful pictures of our monthly Get-Together
